We are one of the UK’s leading structural steel installation companies, with operations in the North West and across the UK. Please see below a range of projects we have completed.
Our team at Salford Engineering Solutions have recently completed the installation of the first Buhler Al-Pesa system in the UK for one of our clients. This state of the art equipment enables our client to produce a traditional “Chakki” flour, to the highest standards of food quality and safety.
The modular, integrated high compression grinding mill and flour handling system was installed in conjunction with a Buhler supervisor. The project was completed on time and within budget, and had to be significantly reconfigured to suit the client’s needs. SES were the principle contractor who, as well as the installation managed everybody’s Health, Safety and Welfare. This was highly successful despite being done amid two national lock downs and against the back drop of the Covid pandemic.
Platform Manufacture & Installation of Steelwork Plus Installation of Process Machinery
As a preferred installer for Buhler UK, Salford Engineering was asked to install new process plant machinery.
In the course of the site survey with the client, we discovered that it was not possible to install the independent foundations without undermining the existing silo structure. In an alternative plan, we submitted proposals to design, fabricate and install a new steel building to house the new equipment to the front elevation, on independent piles.
The client accepted our proposals and we commenced with the manufacture of a 13 tonne, 9.2mtr high platform extension to the main building. The galvanised steel frame was designed, fabricated and erected by Salford Engineering Solutions Ltd.
Installation with Client in Full Production.
We worked to an extremely tight deadline under strict site conditions due to the main site being in full production. Our workshop manufactured and fabricated the structure in 3 days. We had it galvanised in 24 hours and on the 5th day it was at the client’s site.
The installation of the platform had to be done in stages and required our steel erectors and process and plant engineers working together. The 1st level had to be completely installed so the machines could be craned in and fitted before the 2nd level could be erected in the same manner. As our steel erectors left site, the process engineers got to work, connecting the newly installed machines together, along with the piping, aspiration, filters etc.
This is a fine example of both of our specialised areas of the business worked together to create a highly favourable outcome for the client.
We have developed a very good relationship with this client after years of successfully working with them. We were appointed to undertake the mechanical installation of the company’s new mill. We provided the expertise and labour for the machinery installation along with the mechanical services and additional fabrications needed to complete the installation.
A further aspect of our work on this project was the provision of full CDM for the new mill site and all of the contractors involved.
Salford Engineering had a minimum of 10 engineers men per day on site, ensuring all deadlines were met. The new mill was commissioned within the deadline and is running and working to its full capacity.

Red Background |
This was a challenging but very successful project for Salford Engineering. From initial design stage to completion took 8 months
The initial project was trimming steel and support steel to existing cast iron columns on 5 floors. Our structural engineer along with the clients then made the decision to completely strip the whole building out just leaving the four external walls.
We then designed and manufactured a structural frame inside a building and erected a tower crane inside the building for installation of the steel.
Railway Line Complexity
To complicate matters the building is situated touching distance from the main west coast railway line into Victoria station. This played a big part, especially an extension to the building. We could only erect the rear elevation at night from the hours of 2300-0500 and had to take full possession of the railway line and enforce road closures.
Co-ordination with Network Rail
Working closely with Network Rail and the local council we completed the project injury, incident and accident free.
We had a highly satisfied client who decided to use Salford Engineering to do additional works including the main steel fire exit staircase, balconies and stainless steel balustrades.
A further successful accident & injury free project designed manufactured and installed by Salford Engineering Solutions.
Our client decided to create apartments in a building directly above a nightclub in Manchester town centre.
Acoustic Floor Installation
Salford Engineering was tasked with designing, manufacturing and installing an acoustic floor on the 1st floor of these apartments to sound proof the noise from the nightclub. The steelwork is sat 75mm up from the floor on acoustic pads.
In order to access the floor we cut a 3m x 2m hole in the floor. We used an “A” frame and hoist to unload and lift the steel onto trolleys to be moved into position. 200+ pieces of steel ranging from 2000mm to 4500mm was lifted through the hole with weights ranging from 40kg to 501kg with 80 % of the sections being spliced together using 30mm splice plates with M24 bolts. In total, 6000+ bolts were used.
Tight Completion Time Window
We worked to a strict schedule and co-ordinated with other contractors in order to allow the contractors fitting the metal deck and concrete to complete on time.
The physical constraints of the building and the installation methods used required meticulous planning and co-operation with other parties.
Salford Engineering Solutions was invited to be part of a project team involved in creating living accommodation in the centre of Manchester from a building used as retail and office space.
Access & Safety Challenges
The listed building is on King Street Manchester. With access restrictions and pedestrian traffic constantly around the building it was a challenge to even get materials into the building.
Salford Engineering installed supporting steelwork to allow removal of existing walls and facilitate new walls and floors to be fitted. We strengthened existing columns and steelwork where necessary, by welding addition plates and sections.
High Quality Steel Feature Staircases
The initial contract was for us to supply and fit additional structural steelwork. Our involvement then grew and we were asked to supply three spiral staircases in the duplex apartments. These were steel fabrications with a beech wood tread to match the apartment’s décor. This involved a lot of planning and needed a quick installation time to allow the works to progress as planned.
In addition we also supplied Hit and Miss Staircases and balustrades to complement the quality finish that the apartments offered.
Our client expressed gratitude for our assistance and flexibility in helping to make the King Street renovation a successful project.
